     We require that puppies be at least 4 months old (the minimum age at which they are fully vaccinated).Our canine guests be must vaccinated against distemper, parvovirus (this may be a combination vaccine that will immunize against other viruses, too) rabies and bordatella (kennel cough). We ask that you provide us with written confirmation from your vet that your pet’s vaccinations are current. Your vet may fax this to us at 760-233-5060 or you may bring them with you at check-in.

     Each dog is given a flea and tick preventative treatment upon arrival, and the fee is $12. If you or your vet has already treated your pet within the past 30 days please tell us during check-in.

     At the Windsong Resort for Pets we do not have indoor/outdoor kennels. We are proudly an “All Suite Pet Retreat”©. Each canine guest has a comfortable, climate-controlled room. Each is taken out to the grassy lawn 3 times daily for supervised exercise while his or her room is being cleaned and disinfected. This allows us to observe each guest for signs of stress or illness and to interact personally with each guest. Additional “potty breaks” are available, as well as additional playtimes that can be scheduled during check-in.

     At check-in, we ask for contact information for each guest’s regular vet. In case of emergency illness, we will first try to take your pet there. If for any reason your vet is unavailable, we will use Del Norte Plaza Veterinary Clinic, or if after hours, Escondido Animal Urgent Care.

     If you’d like to bring your pet’s own food, we only ask that it be bagged into the correct portions for each meal and clearly marked. We try to keep our guests on the same feeding schedule they enjoy at home. We generally feed morning and late afternoon or early evening, but we will gladly accommodate up to three feedings per day. We monitor the water consumption of each of our guests, checking and refreshing so that your pet will have fresh water available constantly throughout his or her stay. We will administer medications or vitamins. Please be sure any medications are clearly marked with dosage and frequency.

     To avoid disappointment, we recommend that you make your reservation as far in advance as possible, especially for the busy summer and holiday times. We do book up quickly! No deposit is necessary, but we do ask that, if your plans should change, you cancel promptly as a courtesy to those who may be on our waiting list.

     Although we take every precaution to protect your pet from being exposed to disease while they are at Windsong, they can contract an airborne illness from another pet. By requiring current vaccinations, maintaining our ventilation systems, and practicing meticulous sanitation in our outdoor areas and twice-daily cleaning and disinfecting of indoor areas, we endeavor to minimize the risk. Additionally, we observe your pet and recognize early signs of common illnesses. We have isolation areas where guests displaying symptoms of illness are comfortably and safely housed, and vets on call 24 hours per day. Think of sending your child to school: You see that he/she has received that season’s flu vaccine, takes vitamins, and has proper nutrition and rest, but despite your best efforts may contract a cold or flu, possibly a strain that was not included in the vaccine.
